Frequently Asked Questions 1. What method of payment is accepted for staining my fence or deck? We
accept 2. How does "A small investment create lasting impressions"? The price for protecting and bringing out the natural beauty in your wood fence or deck is typically around 10 to 20% of the construction cost of your fence or deck. When considering inflationary cost for replacement and the added years of service and beauty, the cost percentage dramatically drops, making this a very cost effective and smart investment. Staining your fence or deck is the same as painting your house when it is new or when it becomes necessary because this is what adds beauty, longevity, and your personal flair. A beautifully stained fence greatly enhances your property's appearance by accenting your landscaping and home, which will add extra outdoor enjoyment and satisfaction of home ownership. This gives your home an inviting and exceptional curb appeal which not only makes your home very memorable, but increases it's value as well. People always remember those things in life that stand out.
3. What is involved in staining a fence? The process involves a two system approach to protecting the wood structure. First cleaning the fence or deck must be done prior to staining. The only exception to this is if the wood fence or deck is new with no mold growth. The cleaning is done with a simple solution of bleach and water that is applied with a sprayer. Power washing a fence or deck should only be done if there is heavy mold growth. This is because power washing deteriorates the wood from the high pressures of the sprayer. The second system involved in protecting your wood fence or deck is to apply a stain with the properties to give color and protection. We use a special mixture of stain that includes a sealant, mildicide, UV protectant, and waterproofing agent. We also guarantee these properties of the stain 2 years for transparent stain and 3 years for semi-transparent stain.
4. Does it matter how old a fence or deck is?
No matter how old a fence or deck is, they can be cleaned and stained giving them many more years of life. Or they can be stained when they are newly built to give them vibrant color while simultaneously prolonging their life.
5. Why would a fence need to be bleached?
Older fences or fences not protected can become grey and grow mildew. Bleaching the wood removes the mold without damaging the wood. Better preparing it for staining. 6. How long would it take to stain my fence or deck? It will take an average of 2-3 hours to clean and stain your fence. 7. Does staining a fence or deck last forever? No. Staining can last up to 5 to 10 years depending on weather conditions. However, a fence's beauty and longevity can be preserved almost indefinitely by following the recommended reapplication of stain on a 3 to 4 year interval. Wood Defender® products are guaranteed 2 years for transparent stain and 3 years for semi-transparent stain. 8. How does the stain work once applied?
By saturating the surface of the lumber, the Wood Defender® product penetrates into the wood leaving the fence with an even, uniform coating. This stain does not peel or chip, saving hours of sanding and prep work for refinishing, and therefore assuring a uniform and great appearance every time.

10. Is my fence or deck gray because it's old? No. The gray on a fence or deck is mold. A new fence or deck will turn gray within 1 year if not properly protected. 11. Why shouldn't I just paint my fence or deck? This is the number one misconception homeowners have. Painting a fence or deck is the worst thing you could do. Painting has virtually no protective properties, has to be applied very regularly, and is very expensive and time consuming. 12. Why shouldn't I power wash my fence or deck? This is another big misconception. Yes, power washing does do the job of cleaning the wood, but it also takes many years of life off of the wood each time it is done by severely deteriorating the wood surface. |
